Brand names such as Coke, Nike, Adidas, Yahoo!, KFC, etc have become household names after spending millions of dollars towards advertising.  However for most start-up businesses spending a fortune towards branding and advertising is not feasible.  However branding your small businesses is not as difficult or expensive than it might seem to be.  In this article, let us learn 3 ways to register your brand name in the minds of your customers.

  1. Register a domain name carrying the name of your business or company.  Let us say you are running an online candle shop in the name of “Candles and lights”, you should register your domain name as candlesandlights dot com.  Even if you run an informational website about candles and do not sell candles online, you will still be better off registering the domain name specific to your business brand name.  Even in case you run your business under your own name – Sohel Rana, for instance, then register a domain name under sohelrana dot com
  2. Distribute small freebies or promotional items with your business name printed on the items.  While choosing the freebies that you want to distribute, choose items that people would need day in and day out.  Normal examples of such promotional items would be pens, pencils, notepads, calendars, clocks, coffee mugs, calculators etc.  Instead of spending a fortune towards advertisements, distribution of such freebies is an economical and effective way of registering your brand name in the minds of your customers.
  3. One another effective method of brand registry is to have a hard look at your local market first and to tie up with one of the prominent shop keepers to display signage related to your business in front of his shop.  None of the customers remember things that they hear of only once or twice in a period of time and hence repetition becomes key to registering your brand name in the customer’s minds.

Variety of local marketing media such as newspapers, radio stations, phone books, etc is a great source for registering your brand name in the minds of your customers.  Also come up with out of the box ideas to display your brand name.  Printing your brand name in the T-Shirt of your local rugby team, including a commercial press release in a local journal, etc are great ways to bombard your customers with your brand name.

It would be a great idea to try and think like a customer.  Think about the various places your customers would look for when trying to buy your product.  Once you have identified such places, place your commercial or brand name advertisements in such places.  This will ensure that your customers buy your product every time.
