The new iPad is finally released, but in the near future it won't be the only tablet king in town. There are a few other tablets out there in various stages of development

Apple has surely snagged the "pioneer" advantage in 2010’s tablet renaissance, and there are still scant few details on release date and pricing for some of its future competitors. Even so, it’s surely worth a look at what those tablet competitors are going to be releasing with.

Let’s see at what iPad competitors are likely to have just around the corner.

1. Dell Streak

Dell announced about its upcoming tablets including a prototype which is called as the Streak. It is only 5", though, which may not put it in the iPad's direct path and more akin to the present MIDs (mobile internet devices) like the Internet tablets of Archos series. Only a little is known about the Streak, or what type of other tablets Dell could be cooking up.

2. HP Slate

HP Slate was shown very briefly at CES 2010. Its dimension is approximately comparable to iPad, an indication that this form-factor could become practically ubiquitous in the future. It will run Windows 7 unlike other future tablets that prefer Android.

3. Asus Eee Tablet

A few years ago, Asus was the manufacturer responsible for kicking off the whole netbook craze. They also have a 9" tablet prototype shown off at CES this year. The tablet has four control buttons like most Android-powered phones, leading to a logical speculation that it might run the Google’s mobile OS.

4. Compal Tablet

It is a 7" Android 2.0 tablet runs on the powerful, next-generation Tegra 2 chip. With this processor, a device can play 1080p video playback, yet hold startlingly long battery life. NVIDIA said it already has a few partners lined up to develop Tegra 2-based tablets.

5. Notion Ink Adam

One more tablet powered by the Tegra 2 chip and running Android is the Adam, a 10" tablet from an Indian company, Notion Ink. It has a screen technology developed by Pixel Qi that blends the best of a multi-touch full-color LCD display with the reflective low-power mode that is visible in direct sunlight.

It is said that Adam would come to market in the 2d quarter of 2010, at about $300 to $800.

6. MSI

It is another tablet powered by the Tegra 2 and running Android, some previews state that it is a bit heavier and thicker than they’d like. However on the plus side it has a responsive 10" screen.

7. Quanta

The last prototype with Tegra 2 chip and Android is the Quanta tablet and it will support Wi-Fi and 3G.
