Things to Consider When You Do Online Shopping

Online shopping can be very convenient in that it allows you to shop from your home, many times you can find some amazing deals and you ship items all around the world. However, there are several things to consider including the security and authenticity of the website, quality of the products being sold and the customer care the website provides.  

One the biggest risk to online shopping is phishing. Phishing is attempting to acquire sensitive information such as your username, password and credit card information by pretending to be a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication or email. Any reputable company is not going to ask you for your account information via an email so don't provide it, besides they have your contact information if it is an emergency they will call. Also if you receive a email about a specical promotion instead of clicking on the link in the email, enter the companies official website into your web browser and look for the promotion.  

Another risk of buying online is the quality of products being sold. So before you shop at a website look at reviews, check the Better Business Bureau, and ask people you know have they heard of the website.  This process may be time consuming but it is better to do the research than to pay the price of getting less than you ordered.  Also when bidding on auctions actually read the fine print because sometimes the details will change the overall price or will explain quality of the product in detail. Remember the old adage "If sounds too good to be true, it probably is," this is especially true when it comes to online shopping, you may end up with Shawn Jean instead of Sean John.
