The Better Business Bureau has been in place since 1912 and its main purpose is to protect both the consumer and the businesses from fraudulent activities and acts as a sort of mediator between consumers and businesses when there is an issue that can be rectified between the two.  Working with consumers and businesses the Better Business Bureau's core is based around creating business reliability reports, fraud prevention, complaints and dispute resolution, truth-in-advertising, consumer and business education, wise giving charity reports, charity accountability and effectiveness education.  All of these things have been developed over nearly 100 years to help protect both consumers and the businesses.  Although its easy to see what the Better Business Bureau does for a consumer its not always so easy to see what they do for the businesses.

The owners of many businesses pride themselves on being members of the Better Business Bureau and proudly display certificates from the BBB on their websites and in their physical locations.  The reasoning for this is because it gives consumers a positive feeling about the company that they are dealing with and assures them that the company is a good and reliable business.  So you can see how it has a marketing value.  Not only that but the BBB will assist businesses in dispute resolution.  You must remember that they are not just in place to protect the consumer but also to protect the business as well.  Don't forget that as a business you likely deal with other businesses for their products and services which makes your company not only a business but also a consumer.

All in all the Better Business Bureau was put in place with the intent to protect businesses and consumers from any form of negative activity and it has made a name for its self in doing so.  The BBB is a name and a symbol that you can trust in.
